A traditional home in the trendy Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland is fully renovated to fit the lives of a young couple and their growing family. The existing closed-in kitchen was opened up to the dining room and adjacent breakfast nook, and walls around the stair to the basement were cut back to allow light to flow through the spaces. The laundry was moved from the basement to the bedroom level, and more functional closets were added. The awkward existing closets and single bathroom were reconfigured to create a true ensuite and a completely new Jack ‘n Jill bathroom, both of which take advantage of the many windows to bathe the rooms in natural light. All windows in the bathrooms were reglazed for safety while maintaining their original aesthetic and craftsmanship.
