Alameda

In the wake of pandemic, a young family bought a charming four bedroom home built in 1915 in the historic Gold Coast neighborhood of Alameda Island. The 2,055 square foot home had ample space, but had not been updated in decades and the parents needed spaces to work from home without intruding into their communal spaces. The existing bedroom which opened directly into the entry foyer was converted into a small office with space for a new coat closet and powder room to serve the entertaining spaces. This provided an opportunity to convert the main floor jack-and-jill bathroom into an ensuite to serve the remaining main floor bedroom. The segmented kitchen was updated and opened to the dining room for better light and flow through the interior hallway. The upper bedrooms were adjusted to fit a new small office between and updates were made to the existing bathroom. The existing walk out basement was finished to include a comfortable family room, guest bedroom and new bath.
